How to Prepare Your Home Exteriors for Power Washing

Our home power washing services are efficient and comprehensive, but there are a few steps you should take before we visit. Below are some tips on how to prepare your house, driveway, patio, or deck for power washing.

  • Lock all of your doors and windows. Make sure everything is locked and sealed up tight before we start power washing. You don’t want to leave any cracks for water to get through. Power washing is great for the outside of your home, but your interiors definitely wouldn’t like it!
  • Move anything you don’t want water-damaged. If there’s anything outside, such as patio furniture or garden equipment, that you don’t want to get wet, you should move them elsewhere. Either put them inside or store them in your neighbor’s shed for the day. If we’re power washing your driveway, you should also move your car. Anything that can’t be moved should be covered in waterproof plastic.
  • Cover electrical outlets. Any gadgets, machines, or décor powered by electricity definitely needs to be stored somewhere else while HERO power washes your exteriors. Do a walkthrough and make sure everything is unplugged from exterior outlets, and close the outlet covers firmly.
  • Supervise children and pets. Power washing can be dangerous if an accident happens, so keep kids and pets away from the house or safely inside. Make sure they don’t go near windows or doors if they’re inside the house.
  • Protect your plants. Most plants can’t withstand the high-pressure water stream of a power washer. Any outdoor potted plants should be moved inside and fragile landscaping should be covered with sturdy plastic. Plants are also susceptible to runoff from any cleaning agents we use to power wash your house. To prevent these agents from sticking in the soil and damaging your plants, water down any landscaping first with plain water, soaking the soil.

At HERO exteriors, we believe in preventive maintenance. By scheduling regular power washing and exterior maintenance services with us, you can improve your curb appeal and prolong the life of your home’s exterior features. It’s better to do a little bit of maintenance now than to pay for huge, costly repairs later. For our Northern Colorado clients, we recommend power washing your house, deck, or patio every one or two years, and power washing your driveway annually.
